Clark Olofson was an American criminal who was best known for his participation in the infamous armed robbery of the Pierre Hotel in Manhattan in 1972. He was born on June 12, 1949, in New York City and grew up in the Bronx. Olofson dropped out of high school and started engaging in criminal activities, including burglary, armed robbery, and drug trafficking.
In 1972, Olofson and his accomplices robbed the Pierre Hotel, stealing more than $200,000 worth of cash and valuables. During the robbery, they held several hotel employees and guests hostage at gunpoint, which led to a massive manhunt by the police. Olofson was eventually arrested and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
After serving his sentence, Olofson became an advocate for prison reform and helped to establish the Fortune Society, an organization that provides support and services for individuals who have been incarcerated. He also wrote a book about his experiences, titled “Fortune in My Eyes: A Memoir of Broadway Glamour, Social Justice, and Political Passion.”
Clark Olofson passed away on March 6, 2018, at the age of 68.
